when I depress the brake to slow down, the car starts bumping like the brakes are slipping a little. I checked the front brake pads and they were practically brand new. I have not started to mess with the drum brakes in the rear

Hi there,

I would first get a mechanic to test drive the car to confirm that this is a brake problem first, if so then get all the brakes inspected for operation and defects by a qualified mechanic.
