There is a special adapter and pressure gauge needed, I would get a trans tech to do this test as they will have a better underestanding of the reading and be able to interpret any faults more accurately, I will look into the N0 3 solenoid for you.

Sorry, if I sound a little frustrated. Thanks for the reply.
I checked solenoids 1 and 2 and their wires and they are working fine, called Toyota and they told me that there is a #3 solenoid. Number #3 solenoid, I believe also called lock up solenoid, checked malfunctioning before I started
taking things apart, so my theory is that is possible that #3 is not working.
Thanks again

I've just rebuilt the engine in my wife's 89' camry. The engine runs great. Before I took everything apart the automatic transmission worked fine too. I've changed the fluid and filter in the transmission and reverse works fine, but when I put it in drive it seems to take forever for the car to pick up speed. It seems to have to wind up, no matter how much I press the gas it won't accelerate any faster. Going up an incline takes forever, no power, but it doesn't seem to be related to the engine. Shifting is sudden and hard. Forward travel is accompanied by a cyclic vibraton, sort of like a "rocking chair" motion. Also, the factory cruise was disconnected when we got the car, could that have something to do with it? Is there a shift solenoid somewhere that could cause this? There are no leaks and the fluid level is correct. And no we didn't drop the transmission when we installed it.

Check and test the TPS and VSS sensors it tells the computer the throttle and governor pressures and in turn commands the shift solenoids to upshift/downshift/overdrive. Lock-up etc
