A loud popping and jerking occurs when you turn the wheel either way. The only way I can describe the noise is it sounds like a glass bottle being broken and the way it jerks is like you are going on an upward incline on a roller coaster. Can you please try to help me figure out what on gods green earth is going on?

It sounds like a possible binding in the rack or strut mounts.

If the front end is raised, the wheels should be able to be turned by hand ( in a motion that is like turning left or right) fairly easily. My guess you will find whats binding. IF so, disconnect the tie rod ends and see if the binding goes away or remains. If it remains, then it is a strut mount issue.

Inspect carefully the coil springs
you may have a broken front spring.
