When starting the car, it starts sometimes and sometimes it won't. Then after sitting a while and try to start, it starts again. How can I tell whether it's the starter before taking it to the repair shop? What else might cause the car to do this? Thanks

When you say it wont start, the vehicle wont crank? As in the starter engages?

Or the vehicle will crank just not turn over and run.

The vehicle won't crank. It makes a clicking sound, but the engine never turns over.

Sounds like you should check the battery first and make sure all the battery connections are clean and free of corrosion.

If thats not it suspect a starter relay or bad starter, take them to a autopart store to have tested.

Try different angles when its being tested also.
