Do you have an Overdrive (OD) switch button on the shift lever? If yes, it should always be ON except on steep mountain road or towing. At 70 mph, RPM should be around 2.75 to 3

Right on! I have a'92 also. I've made the switch between on and off while driving, RPMs went HIGH when off. I also have a button on shifter console to the left of the lever that says "ECT", has 2 positions - PWR and NORM. Leave in NORM.
