1997 Toyota 4Runner start problem

Intermitantly when the key is turned to start nothing happens. No sound or action. After several tries starter engages, engine starts and runs normal. Starter is original. Is the start solonoid integral with the starter or is it remotely mounted? Battery is new.

Have helper hold key at start -bang on the starter if it engages the engine replace the starter if not inhibitor switch/relay, transmission range switch and ignition switch. Solenoid is integral with the starter.
