Engine Performance problem
1992 Toyota 4Runner 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I bought a 92 toy 4runner and have been driving it awhile. Then all of a sudden I heard a pop and then it chugged all the way home parked it in the driveway and now it wont start at all. What could it be? Someone said it was a blown piston and that I have to replace the whole engine, is that true?

Hi 92toy4runner,

You need to perform tests to find what what is wrong. At least a visuall inspection is required.

Without understanding what had gone wrong, there is no way to suggest what to do.

Good luck with that 92! I have the same truck and it has 300,000 miles on it. Within the last few yrs I have had a lot of issues with it. I hope there wasn't white smoke flowing when that happened. Check your heads. They are aluminum so they mess up easily. I have changed mine 3x's in 8yrs. But damn't they are great trucks and i'm not giving up on mine yet! :)
