Hello, last week my 22RE got hot then started missing when I got home I noticed water coming out of the exhaust, lots of water, I thought I blew the head gasket, well I pulled the head and one of the head bolts had rust on it and I didn't see where the gasket had failed, could this be a cracked block internal or.

Hi there,

Sometimes it is very hard to see exactly where the gasket has failed, or it may be a cracked head, so get the head crack tested repaired if required straightened & machined. Make sure that the block surface id clean before re fitting, replace the thermostat and get the radiator cleaned & flow tested.

Thanx, I bought a new head and radiator incase, the old head was rebuilt twice, sooo, whats the odds of craked block. I let it cool off naturally not flushing with cold water?
Thanx Manny

Hi there,

Under normal conditions the chances of a block failure is very remote, I would be happy with doing the head and radiator, I don't expect that you will have any problems, one thing, it is a good idea to replace the head bolts as well.

Hello again, had a few probs but it's on now, my last Q is, I lined up the dimpels on the crank and cam sprokets with the chain links, put the time cover back on and ready to install the distrib, but now when I line up the cam sproket @ 12:00 the crank time mark is between the 5* and 0, will that work or is it off a tooth? Thanks Manny.
