While it isn't a good idea it likely didn't hurt it. The oil level in most engines is lower than it could be to keep it away from the spinning crankshaft. If the crank starts frothing the oil you end up with air trapped in it and air isn't good for bearings. As such most engines are designed so the oil can only get near the crankshaft under extreme conditions when the engine it tilted or under a lot of cornering force. The rest of the time there is about 1-2 quarts of "room" in there. In this case the oil might have hit the crank a few times but it caused no real issues.
