Is the timing set at 1 o'clock with number one piston at TDC? Or 4 o'clock with number one piston at TDC?
Thank you, JC

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com

Here are the directions specific to your vehicle for removal and replacement of the distributor. The attached pictures correlate with these directions.

REMOVAL
1. Remove the screws securing the distributor cap and remove the cap.
2. Remove the bolt securing the distributor.
3. Disconnect the crank angle sensor connector and remove the distributor.

INSTALLATION

Timing Mark

1. Turn the engine over until #1 cylinder (front) is at TDC compression stroke.

2. Install the distributor, making sure the rotor is aligned as shown when fully seated.
3. Install the distributor securing bolt and tighten slightly.
4. Connect the crank angle sensor terminal.
5. Install the distributor cap and tighten the screws.
6. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES and adjust the timing.

Let me know if this helps or if you need more information.

Take care,
Joe

Hello Joe,

Nissan will not start. Which degree mark should the timing degree marks read when at top dead center? And I am not sure what or where the crank angle sensor is located. Can you narrow that down? Or maybe a photo? Also, should the rotor be pointing to number one on the cap when number one piston is at TD? Thank you, JC

Hi again:

When the number 1 cylinder is at TDC, it should be 0 degrees on the crank. Also, yes the rotor should be pointing at the number 1 spark plug when the engine is at TDC. The Crankshaft position sensor is on the rear of the engine. See the picture I attached.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello and thanks again For your expert help.

So the plug on top of transmission bell housing controls that sensor. I did not unplug it when timing the truck today. But it was out 180 degrees. Out. Took oil pump back off and distributor back out and aligned the two until it fit back in the engine. It did not even turn over twice before starting up. Great day. Thank you. I have submitted what I hope is one last question. If you see the post and have the answer please let me know Joe. Many thanks and hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving. Joe beware of turkey this year poisoned turkeys are being sold across our Nation. Happy Holidays and God Bless, JC
