The engine will only rev up to 1500, no problem starting the engine and I have cleaned the body and the connections. If the fault lies with the throttle body and I replace this what do I do to delete all the old faults from the computer's memory as suggested in a reply to a similar question. I have checked for fault codes using the pedal method and I have a P152 code which is a throttle problem, will you confirm this for me, please?

I am sorry but the code number does not come up. Can you please recheck the number?

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers, Ken

Hello Ken, Trying again I get 1523. I recently had a list of codes from Google but the nearest number is 1525 Limp home error C-09 or 1526 Throttle position adaption error C-09. From 1500 to 1526 all are related to throttle problems it appears. After cleaning the throttle body I did take a look at the motor and gearing and sprayed the contacts with my contacts cleaner. There are a few ECU testing firms on the internet who will either repair or replace a throttle body or ECU, what are your opinions about such firms?

Try to see if the company has any reviews becasue I have seen both good and not so good companies that do this kind of thing. But with that kind of code it can be a vacuum leak or a MAF sensor that is causing the problem, here are a couple of guides that can help us

Thank you for your reply, I shall check to see if there is a vac leak. The mass air flow sensor test (removing electric connection, engine running) the engine does shut down though not immediately so probably the sensor does need cleaning. I used carb cleaner to clean the throttle body previously but I do not have the sensor cleaner. The engine starts up straight away but during idle until the engine gets warmed up there is a slight fluctuation, again this is probably a mass air flow sensor fault but having carried out this test this morning the engine will not continue to idle. I have recently checked for fault codes using a cheap code reader which showed "no faults found" but this reader must be faulty. I will keep you informed of my progress. Cheers,
Bernard.

When a MAF sensor is a little off it can cause the problem and not set a code FYI.

Please let us know what happens so it will help others.

Sorry, no pictures available at present. Having received the MAF sensor cleaning spray I have carried out the work, unfortunately I was unable to remove the sensor itself but managed to spray through the wired protection in the air tube. I had removed the negative battery connector during the cleaning and after replacing this and leaving the ign switched on for 15 minutes the engine started up as normal but the revs still will not increase above 1500. Back to further investigating is needed so I will check and test the throttle position sensor wiring on the accelerator although this seems fruitless now, I shall eventually resort to sending the ECU off for testing at one of the ecu firms. Added to the low revs problem I now find that the wipers have stopped working also the heater blower, I've looked for a fuse but there isn't one on the two circuits, any suggestions, Ken? Cheers. Bernard.

Ya, I am starting to thing it could be plugged exhaust - catalytic converter which will limit the engine RPM.

Here is a guide that can help you.
