The engine revs high when gearing down.

It should go higher when gearing down. Is it revving then going into gear like a slip? If it is get it scanned for codes at a transmission shop.

No the transmission doe not slip at all. In fact, on a flat road it will coast as much as 60 without pressing the accelerator or using the cruise.
