I'M NOT REAL UP ON THE NEWER STUFF

I'VE GOT THE CJs DOWN PAT!

BUT A TRANSFER CASE IS A TRANSFER CASE! THEY ARE USUALLY BUILT SIMILAR AND DO THE SAME OPERATIONS

LOOK THIS LINK OVER ('SPECIALLY MY ANSWERS AND THE "NEUTRAL" PART)

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/1979-jeep-cj5-clutch-problems

I'M NOT UP ON THE LINKAGES, HOW THEY WORK, ETC ON THE LATER MODELS. SO IF IT'S NOT AS SIMPLE AS A MECHANICAL SHIFT (AS IN MY LINK) LOOK FOR SOMETHING LOOSE/ A ROCK OR A STICK IMPEDING MOVEMENT. LOOSE CONNECTOR OR VACUUM LINES

RETURN TO THIS THREAD WITH A GRIN!

See if your shift lever moves it may be a broken cable if cable operated if not the tcase will have to come apart unless this is electric shift which in case it is will have to be scanned for codes. If cable doesn't move then check shifter and other end of cable to see if the cable will move without shifter.

MAYBE I'M NOT UNDERSTANDING ZACKLY WHAT'S GOING ON, OR MAYBE YOU ARE NOT UNDERSTANDING THE "POSSIBLE" TRANSFER CASE INVOLVEMENT. OR HOW THESE "TRANSMISSIONIZED" WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH EACH OTHER

(IT VERY WELL MAY BE A TRANSMISSION SHIFTER ISSUE, NOT THE TRANSFER CASE)

THIS NEW CRAP IS SO OVER-ENGINEERED IT'S PATHETIC!

ON A CJ, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER GOES DIRECTLY INTO THE TOP OF THE TRANNY AND SHIFTS THE GEARS "ALMOST" DIRECTLY (W/ FEW MOVING PARTS)

THE TRANSFER CASE IS THE SAME WAY!

IN CASE YOU MAY NOT KNOW HOW THIS STUFF WORKS, THE ENGINE BASICALLY RUNS THE TRANSMISSION, THE TRANNY THEN THE TRANSFER CASE, WHICH RUNS THE DRIVE SHAFTS. POWER FROM THE ENGINE RUNS THRU THE WHOLE SYSTEM, AND IN THE END THE TRANSFER CASE "IS SELECTED" TO BE IN 2WD/ NEUTRAL/ 4WH/ 4WL (MAYBE NOT IN THAT ORDER)

WHAT ME AND HMAC300 ARE SUGGESTING (AT THE MOMENT) IS THAT THE TRANSFER CASE MAY BE IN "NEUTRAL" WHETHER SOMETHING CAME LOOSE OR BROKE. THE "STICK" MAY SHOW IT'S IN 2WD, BUT THE LINKAGES MAY BE IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION.

THE TRANNY WOULD OPERATE NORMALLY, . EXCEPT IT'S POWER WOULD BE INTERNALLY DRIVING THE TRANSFER CASE, THE TRANSFER CASE WOULD NOT CREATE ANY "OUTPUT" POWER OR DRIVE TO THE AXLES. (EXPLAINED IN A QUICK NUTSHELL)

THIS MIGHT BE AN EZ REPAIR IF IT HAS HAPPENED

OTHER POSSIBILITIES.

. YOU HAVE DRIVEN ON HARD SURFACES (LIKE THE ROAD!) IN 4WD FOR EXTENDED PERIODS AND HAVE POSSIBLY TERRIBLY DAMAGED BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE

THESE NEWER RIGS DO NOT HAVE CONVENTIONAL TYPE U-JOINTS, I KNOW LITTLE ABOUT THEM, THEY RESEMBLE A PIPE KINDA COUPLER, MAYBE IT IS STRIPPED OUT AND TURNING ON ONE SIDE BUT NOT THE OTHER.

THEN THERE'S THE TRANNY SHIFTER OR IT'S LINKAGES, THE SHIFTER SHIFTS AROUND, BUT MOVES NOTHING IN THE TRANNY.

ON MY CJ, W/ THE ENGINE RUNNING, IF THE TRANSFER CASE IS IN NEUTRAL, I CAN MOVE THE TRANNY SHIFTER TO EACH GEAR, THEN LET OUT ON THE CLUTCH AND HEAR THE GEARS TURNING IN THE TRANNY, PUSH IN THE CLUTCH, THE GEAR NOISE STOPS.

SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE INTO ANY POSITION, AND I'M OFF AND RUNNING!

DID YOU ACTUALLY CHECK THE LINKAGES SHOWN IN YOUR VIDEO?

(LOOKS LIKE THE IMAGE DEALEE AIN'T WORKING RIGHT NOW)
