Clutch problems

I just got my jeep running after 7 years. The clutch was stuck but broke free quickly. I drove for 2 blocks and now its like the clutch is stuck engaged. Can a clutch just "go out" all of a sudden?
Do you
have the same problem?

DOES YOUR PEDAL MOVE DOWN AN INCH OR MAYBE TWO, BEFORE YOU START FEELING IT GET "STIFF" AS IT LIFTS UP THE PRESSURE PLATE

OR MAYBE ANOTHER WAY OF SAYING THE SAME THING---WHEN THE PEDAL IS ON THE FLOOR, HOW FAR DOES IT COME UP, BEFORE THE JEEP STARTS MOVING? (OR "ENGAGES")

The clutch just doesn't work at all. I can start the jeep in any gear and it is like it is in neutral. I can shift into each gear with the engine off. The clutch pedal feels fine but does nothing.

Linkages and fork look ok to me but I know very little about clutches.

Everything seems to move ok when I watch from underneath and my daughter pushes down the clutch pedal.

There is a good inch of play when you push the pedal before you feel any resistance.

I just bought this jeep off a guy who had it in his garage for 7 years. I don't know what kinda h. Ell it was put through.

It worked fine for about 2 blocks. I shifted through the gears and clutch worked fine. Then all of a sudden it was like I was in nuetral and coasted to a stop. Now neither reverse, 1st, 2nd or 3rd do anything. Can start the jeep in any of those gears and jeep just sits there. Gunned the engine several times and still nothing.

Ok. So I am the one that is stupid! Yes the trasnfer case is in neutral. Here I was getting ready to buy a new clutch. Not sure how it got into neutral as I was driving when it went into neutral and I didn't put it there. I will take it for another drive and see what happens. Thanks so much for the help. It is greatly appreciated!
