Suspension problem
1996 Subaru Outback All Wheel Drive Manual 147, 00 miles

i just bought this car. Upon my inspection I noticed a problem. Upon severe shaking of the left rear tire I could detect a slight amount of looseness. The strut seemed to be rubbing at some point. Up and down motion, causing an unpleasant noise while driving. I have inspected both sides with car jacked up and could find no defect. The parking brake has signs of not releasing. The car has been exposed to a salt enviroment. But not severe.

Just to clarify, did you notice any scraping marks where the rear strut upper cone was rubbing on the lower canister? Also, at any point was the exhaust contacting the strut spring? It may have clearance when the vehicle was jacked up, but might be touching when on all 4's. On the parking brake, do you feel the vehicle holding back or does the lever not go down all the way? Please advise.
