So I just got a 98 outback and I love it. But the lighting behind the climate control system is not working right now. I checked all the fuses, etc, but I haven't found anything that hints towards the source of the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to replace the bulbs in the module. I also had to do this when I bought my 98 and have done it on a friend's 98 outback as well.

You can get access to the back of the module by removing the air vent covers above the climate control panel. You'll have to remove the control cables from the back of the unit beofre it will come out, but after you get it out, they are easy to change. You can get the bulbs from a Subaru dealer.
