Turn key to run and starts without cranking. Turn key to run and starts on its own and starter will not shut off. Replaced alternator, alternator connector, starter, ignition switch, lock cylinder. Also look at all wires in fuse box and wiring harness. Did replace starter relay and it ran for a day and started acting up again.

Hello,

This is a problem with a short to power between the wire coming from the ignition switch connector for the run position and the tan/red wire going to the coil side of the starter relay. Find the short and you will find your problem. I have included an ignition switch troubleshooting guide as well as starting system wiring diagram for you in the diagrams down below. Please use this information, find the short, and get back to us with what you are able to find out please.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you. Could it be the ignition switch connector itself or relay fuse block?

Hello again,

It could be. You said that you put a new relay in and it stopped for a day or two, so you might want to start there. Not so much with the relay but with the wires and the connectors that the relay plugs into. I have also included a pinout diagram of the ignition switch connector telling you what each wire controls in the diagrams below. Look at the connectors, wires and relay junction box and you will find the problem.

Thanks,
Alex
