I'm trying to determine why my vehicle won't start. The battery is brand new and I tried jumping anyway, so that seems to be ruled out. When I try to start, I get a single click and nothing else. After a few seconds (auto ignition times out) I get three error messages: driver side window needs to be reset, stabilitrack needs maintenance, and power steering needs service. I tried a hard reset by removing a battery terminal connection as well. I checked many of the fuses including every one that seemed to be ignition related. I did notice that the relay for EGR/Coolant Pump/AIR Solenoid Valve was inserted crooked and the pins were bent. I straightened them and tried starting with and without the relay installed. Nothing changed with either scenario.

Recently, the timing chain and a gear were replaced, so it seems possible that something was messed up then. Can you please advise me of any troubleshooting steps I might attempt?

If you get one click and nothing more, the first things I would suggest is inspecting the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tight as well as the main ground to the engine block. Additionally, check to make sure the terminals on the starter are tight.

Next, the starter itself may be bad. Here is a link that explains how to test a starter:

Now, I have to ask. Has the engine run since the timing chain was replaced?

Let me know.
