Starting Disabled

The ignition switch in my SLS was starting to go bad. Put in a new one and now it says, "Service Theft System". It starts but quits after about 1 second. Then says, "Starting Disabled Remove Key".
I've tried the key on, wait 10 minutes, key off then key on again, three times, several times. No go.
I'm using the old tumbler.
Any ideas?
Thanks

This is unfortunately more common than not. When you replaced the switch did you disconnect the battery?

If not, then the vehicle thinks you are trying to steal it.

However, just by disconnecting the battery, you could cause the same thing, so it is not fail-safe, but it is the most common cause of this happening.

Here is a guide that will help with this, but I suspect we are going to have to check for codes:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-reset-a-security-system

Depending on what codes are there, we may have to take different action.

I am also attaching the process below for the 10 minute and 30-minute reset process.

So, let's run through both of these and make sure this is how you did the 10 minute and then do the 30 and see if that is able to reset it.

Thanks for the response. Before I could try any of them, I found the small 3-wire connector on the side if the switch had come loose. Problem solved.

Haha. That is always the best feeling that when you think you are going to have to get into heavy diagnosis to figure out what could have happened, then you find the issue right away. Such a relief.

Glad you found it and thanks for coming back and updating us.

Thanks for using 2CarPros. Please come back in the future.
