My son recently purchased this car. It's been running perfectly up until now. My kids are now stuck somewhere waiting for their father. They got gas (they told the guy premium gas but aren't positive that's what he put in). Was able to drive awhile until while getting off the highway the car started smoking from underneath and all the gauges were going crazy until the car just stopped. Any ideas what my ex husband should look at?

Now I found out the first thing that happened was all of the gauges were flying all over the place. Eventually they all stopped working. At this point the car still felt perfectly fine except for the gauges not working. They were able to drive another five or ten minutes until while getting off the highway my son realized it wouldn't go more than about 5 mph. They got it to a gas station, shut it off and put dry gas in it (a friend who was with them thought maybe water got in the tank). They tried starting it but it was turning over but wouldn't start. They jumped it and it started. As they started driving they noticed they still couldn't go more than 5 mph and water vapor was coming out. They pulled over and shut it off. After that it wouldn't even turn over and trying to jump it did nothing. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

I need to know a few things. Was it all gauges? Was the engine over heating? You said smoke from under the vehicle; It may have been motor oil, transmission fluid, coolant, causing it. Since it will not start with a jump, I also need to know if the starter is engaging and turning the engine but the engine just fails to start. If the engine lost oil and the starter can not turn it, the engine may be seized.

When he gets there, ask him to check motor oil, coolant (do not open the radiator if the engine is hot) and check for a transmission fluid leak.

Do that and let me know what you find.

Joe
