I have a 1998 Saturn sl2 with about 165,000 miles on it. I've replaced everything under the sun on the car, and have decided to once again attack the problem I've had all along: the driver's side power windows will not work.

I've asked around and everyone said it was the switch. Because both the driver's side windows did not work, and there was no draw on the battery when the switch(es) were depressed.

I replaced that switch. Same problem.

I removed the outer door panel to inspect further. I removed the plug that goes into the window motor. Tested it with leads, and no power, with either switch, and the new one was in working condition when removed from another vehicle.

My real question here, as I'm assuming it's a wiring issue, is where do I start? How do I get to the wiring to look for faulty wires/splicing? Can I raise the carpet and get to it, or do I need to go further?

If I can't get into the wiring in the next few days, I'm installing a toggle switch to run to the motor, but for resale value and asthetic purposes I would like to keep the car as factory as possible.

The power door lock controls work on the driver's side, and the speakers still work, although they are aftermarket and were installed by the previous owner. Is it possible he could have cut a wire or something? Should I check the plug that goes into the switch? Is there a possibility that plug could be bad?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

First of all thank you so much for your donation.I emailed you a wire diagram to follow along with. Let me get this straight the LF and LR window's are inop?Have you checked for power and ground to each terminal while operating the switch not across the two terminal's. Also have you check for power and ground to both left side motor's?Do you have a multimeter you will need one to do the next check's before we start tearing any carpet up.
