Hi, my car starts fine in the morning. If I go to the store for 10-30 minutes and try to start the car It doesn't start until the third try and it starts then the idle drops to about 4-5 hundred rpm for about a second then goes to norm idle. I replace the fuel filter, and the car runs smooth no misses, no smoke, no check engine lights. The car seems to run fine but noticed a small decrease in mpg. Could this be do to a coolant temp sensor starting to go bad? THANKS FOR THE HELP!

I would try replacing the coolant temp sensor it's pretty common for them to go bad there located screwed into the head with two wires going to it a black one and a yellow one. Make sure u check the connector if it's corroded u need to replace it they usually turn green when they get corroded. Make sure u get a brass tipped replacement sensor the plastic tipped ones crack and leak coolant into the connector. The sensors are like 10-12 there pretty cheap. If u follow the upper radiator hose to the head below that screwed into the head u will find the sensor. If the sensor doesn't help with the starting the 1997 saturns are also known for the fuel pump bleeding down causing extended cranking an hard starts.U would need a fuel pressure gauge to check that. Let me know what u find.
