2001 Saturn SL1 car all of the sudden wont shift /revs high

I got in my car tonight and it would not shift out of first gear. No warning. Also hesitated when trying to start it. Revs high upon starting while in nuetral

Go to the auto parts like autozone and get your codes read first right down the code numbers if you have any. Then have your battery and alternator tested. Let me know what you find.

This morning the car was dead, I jumped it and found out I do not have reverse now.

We still have to check the battery and alternator there's a reason for the slow start and no start your having. Also your transmission is electrically controlled so if you have a problem with your battery or alternator that could affect your transmission. Do you have a multimeter?Let me know.
