1994 Saturn SC2 need full pedal 2 start then wont start war

My car only starts when u hold it 2 the floor. Idles rough & erratic with black smoke. It stalls @ stop lights then wont start back for a few mins unless I unplug the fuel pump relay. I have replaced the fuel pump and coolant temp sensor. Any ideas?

Did u replace the coolant temp sensor with one wire going to it or two wires going to it?Did u check and make sure the connector going to it wasnt corroded?Also do u have any codes?

Wow! You are good. Yep, that was exactly the problem. I had replaced the sender(1 wire) that the chilton pic was pointing to. When I replaced the sensor(2 wires) it was blown out. That fixed most of my probs but still have 2 hold it to the floor to start then it runs good. As for the codes, the engine light isn't working @ all so guess I'll recheck fuses and replace the bulb, then go from there. I'll let you know. Thanks a million. I couldn't have figured this out on my own.

Ok. Changed bulb, got codes 35(IAC), 43(knock sensor), 45(O2 rich), & 62(?). Changed IAC out. Afraid to do knock sensor cause book says torque & position are critical. Any pointers b4 I go on? Please?

Usually when u get a 35 iac code its the wires pinched somewhere did u look at the wires?Any improvements since u replaced the iac?The code 43 coould be the wiring the pcm or the knock sensor. The knock sensor is easy to change it only screws in one way straight up. As long as u dont over tourqe it u will be ok. The code 45 just means that the car was running rich which it has with the bad coolant temp sensor and all ur other problems.62 is a abs code right front motor circuit grounded. Do u have abs?Let me know.
