2003 Saturn L200 Will not start

When I go to start the car, it tries to start but just dies. When I take the key out, it dings like the lights were left on and the security light(the car symbol with a lock on it) blinks. When this happens the car will not start unless I let it sit for aleast 2 hours, or I disconnect the battery and let it sit for about 10 mins. Then it will usually start but I know that is not the right thing to do.
