Running poorly, cutting out

As it is warming up it runs more and more poorly. The speedometer starts jumping around, it will downshift repeatedly and even disengage and over rev. It is a problem that is getting progressively worse that I can barely go to the store 2 miles away and back. But warm or cold it always starts nicely.
