My car started running hot. When I checked the coolant, my cap was missing. I went and bought a cap and put it on but it's still running hot. What should I do?

Hello,

There are a number of reasons why an engine can run hot. First of all, you want to make sure you have the proper amount of coolant.
If it is overheating when full of coolant, then it could be due to a stuck closed thermostat, bad water pump, inoperative cooling fan, faulty radiator, clog in the cooling system.
Check to see if the radiator fan comes on when the engine is at operating temperature. In operative fan could be due to a bad relay, wiring issue or a bad fan.

Take a look at this guide:

Let me know what you find or if you have any questions.
Thank you.
