We are hearing a rubbing noise in our steering no matter if it is right or left it makes this rubbing sound. It is noticeable and we do not know what it is. Can you give us an idea maybe before we go to garage and they do exploratory surgery that we cannot afford? Thank you.

The noise is coming from the clock spring that allows the wiring to get to the airbag.
Possibly this clock spring was not re-clocked when the steering wheel was off at one time.

Is the rubbing noise coming from the inside or outside the car?

Please let us know so we can help

We can definitely hear the rubbing on the inside but perhaps I can feel it on the gas peddle then it makes that rubbing sound. I can't explain it but it is very noticeable either way we turn. As I said I almost felt the rubbing noise through the gas pedal.

Hey Debi,

There is a rubber boot that seals the steering shaft as it goes through the firewall. If you take WD40 and spray it on the seal it will go away if this is the problem.

Please let me know what happens.

Best, Ken
