Sputtering noise during acceleration up until third gear. The engine is in good condition. This problem just started a few days ago after purchasing the car last week. Before then the truck ran pristine. I have done an oil change and a tune up on it.

Can you please help?

Hi,

I would be happy to help. However, I need a bit more information. First, does the check engine light stay on while the engine is running? Also, does it completely go away after third gear?

If the check engine light is on, then I recommend having the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it free of charge.

Here is a quick video showing how it's done:

Also, are there any odd sounds or strange odors coming from the vehicle? Does the clutch feel firm and seem to be working properly?

Let me know as much as you can.

Take care,

joe

It sputters through all gears until I'm coasting. No smells though. Check engine code reads o2 sensor. May it be the fuel filter?

Hi,

As far as the issue is concerned, it can be caused by several different things. As far as a fuel filter is concerned, yes, anything that can cause the fuel pressure to be lower than needed can do it.

Next, I don't feel the O2 sensor is the cause, but could you send me the code, so I know exactly what you are dealing with?

If interested, here is a link that explains in general how to check fuel pressure:

I attached the manufacturer's fuel pressure specifications below.

Let me know what you find as far as fuel pressure. You will need a fuel pressure gauge, but most parts stores will lend one to you.

Take care,

Joe
