Rough idle and engine shaking?

The car idles rough and the engine shakes, I have a video of it occurring attached. My bets are either the EGR valve or engine mounts, but any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for the video. It looks like the engine mounts need to be replaced. The engine sounds like it is running okay. Does the engine smooth out when just above idle? If so, the mounts are bad.

Yep, the engine mounts are worn out. It happens. I have asked our Euro expert to chime in with engine mount replacement instructions.

Much appreciated, took it to a garage today and they confirmed it was the lower engine mount (gearbox stabilizer), will look to rectify soon.

Hello,

The gearbox stabilizer is called a pendulum support. See image 2
It is mounted into a recess in the subframe and attached with 2 bolts on the lower transmission housing, see image 1.

When replacing the support, you will need to replace the 3 bolts too.
The 2 bolts at the transmission side are tightened to 30Nm + 90 degree.
The bolt at the subframe is tightened to 40Nm + 90 degree.

It is a fairly simple install as the transmission will not drop when loosening the mounting.
Suggest to first remove the 2 transmission side bolts.
Next loosen and remove the bolt at the subframe.
The mounting is quite tight in the recess, you will need to wiggle it out using a small pry bar or large flat screwdriver. Fit new mounting into the subframe recess first.
Install new bolts and tighten to correct torque using a torque wrench and angle attachment.

Hello,

The video certainly seems to show a misfire, but not constant
Being a diesel engine my first check would be a possible diesel injector issue.
Do you have access to a suitable diagnostic tool to check injector compensating values?

VCDS/VAG-COM would be the best tool for VW based products
A lot for sale online, diagnostic cable and software. You will require your own laptop computer.
Also check if you have any possible fault codes.

I've got an OBD2 scanner that connects via Bluetooth to my phone, there's no fault codes showing up, although when the mass air flow rate spikes are when the engine shakes. Graph below.

I should also mention that 2 days ago I took out the airbox and used some air flow sensor cleaner on the MAF.

Opps, the reading from the MAF sensor means you have a leaky intake valve. To confirm the issue, we can do a compression test, this guide should help:

Hi, I thought i'd update you as I took it to the SEAT dealership - it turned out to be an ECU software update that fixed it of all things, quite the goose chase in the end but we got there.
