Timing belt broke while highway driving. I need to reset gears to top dead center in order for the car to run properly. I know that engine damage might be done, but I can't confirm this is true until I install the belt. Any help is appreciated.

If it was running when the belt broke it positively has engine damage, the 6G75 engine is an interference engine design and even running normally it runs a very tight clearance. However if you are going to try it anyway here are the timing marks, For the belt tensioner you can use a vice to compress it and install the retainer pin, compress it very slowly or you can damage it. Be sure to use this order when installing the belt so you don't have any extra slack between the pulleys. Then tighten the adjuster and check the alignment again.

1. Crankshaft sprocket
2. Idler pulley
3. Camshaft sprocket (Left bank)
4. Water pump pulley
5. Camshaft sprocket (Right bank)
6. Tensioner pulley

Once you have it on, turn the engine backwards a quarter turn, then back to TDC and check the marks again. If they are okay tighten the belt using the special tool on the adjuster and torque the bolt to 36 ft lb.
