Good morning,

Did anyone check the high-pressure oil pump? You need to check the pressure while cranking.

Did the shop check the injectors?

Did they verify fuel in the filter and the lift pump is working?

Sorry for all the questions but all these are factors.

What was wrong with the old one? Why did you replace it?

It just started going out the engine would be rough when driving the code that came up was p1316. The guy at the shop said if the IDM goes that's it. So I looked it up and saw it could be a couple things. So I just replaced it. I did go try to start it right now and there is no oil pressure. What do I do now?

Got it.

I would check the pass-through for the injectors at the valve cover. I have replaced many valve cover gaskets for that code rather than the IDM.

No high-pressure oil is not good. You need 600 lbs for it to fire.

RELATED VEHICLES: 1998-2003 E-350, E-450, E-550, Excursion, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 with 7.3L Turbo DSL. Related vehicles have similar information.

SUMMARY: P1316 - Injector Circuit/IDM Codes Detected
The Injector Driver Module (IDM) provides the EF output signal to the PCM to confirm that proper timing/duration of fuel delivery command signal (FDCS) was received. Additionally, the EF signal is used to send diagnostics of the IDM and injectors (electrical) to the PCM. P1316 Indicates that IDM DTCs are stored within the IDM. The exact diagnosis depends on the additional IDM codes. This diagnosis is for a P1316 with any of the additional codes listed in the DIAGNOSIS section below.

RELATED TSB: IMPORTANT: Always refer to the most current version TSB for details.

TSB 04-25-4: HARD START OR NO START - 12/27/04
2000-2003 E-Series, Excursion, F-Super Duty with 7.3L
Some 7.3L vehicles equipped with the glow plug control module (GPCM), may exhibit a hard start or no start condition. This may be due to the GPCM connector. A new GPCM connector service kit, available for the 6.0L engine, can now be adapted to the 7.3L engine. Inspect the GPCM connector for pin conditions such as; pin fit, pull out, bent, corrosion, etc. If a concern is found, replace the GPCM connector with the kit.

TSB 03-21-42: LACK OF POWER UNDER A LOAD, AT CRUISE OR ON ACCELERATION - 10/06/03
1999-2001 SUPER DUTY F SERIES, EXCURSION WITH 7.3L DIT PRODUCED BEFORE 11/25/2000 ONLY.
A lack of power under a load, at cruise or on acceleration may occur on some vehicles built before 11/25/2000 equipped with the 7.3L DIT engine. This may be due to an intake air flow constriction, associated with the air filter element and/or the air box/lid. Verify condition. If normal diagnostics cannot pinpoint condition, replace the air cleaner assembly and element with revised 3" panel element and revised air lid and air box, 1C3Z-9600-AA.

TSB 03-21-41: NO START, LOSS OF POWER OR ROUGH IDLE - DURING EXTREME COLD WEATHER OPERATION - FUEL GELLING - VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 7.3L ENGINE - 10/06/03
1999-2001 SUPER DUTY F SERIES, EXCURSION WITH 7.3L ENGINE
Fuel quality and moisture in certain diesel fuels may cause some vehicles to exhibit a no start, gradual loss of power, or a rough idle condition due to fuel gelling during extreme cold weather operation. Add Top Water Fuel Heater Service Kit (1C3Z-9J294-AA) to increase return fuel temperature which in turn increases bulk fuel temperature in the tank.

PROBABLE CAUSES:

Under Valve Cover (UVC) Harness Connector Disconnected
Injector Driver Module (IDM) Malfunction
Open or Shorted IDM Circuits or Connectors
RELATED COMMUNITY CASES:

P1318, Check Engine Light On
P1293, P1316, Engine Misfire
Code P1316
P1316, Engine Misfiring
Engine Misfire
P1316, Rough Idle, No Power When Accelerating
DIAGNOSIS:

IMPORTANT: Some Techs are reporting troubles with aftermarket Under Valve Cover (UVC) Harness Gasket assemblies.

1. Connect a capable scan tool and read and record the IDM codes. Compare the IDM codes to the Additional Codes below to determine a pattern or to isolate the right or left cylinder bank.
--> If the majority of codes are NOT from one cylinder bank, and the IDM circuits are Ok, replace the IDM.
--> If the majority of codes are from one cylinder bank remove that cylinder bank valve cover and inspect the Under Valve Cover (UVC) harness and connectors for chaffing, breaks, loose connectors or terminal pins, melted circuits or connectors. If any problems are found replace the UVC Harness.

IMPORTANT: Always test the fuel injector and glow plug resistance before reinstalling the valve cover.

2. Verify each fuel injector resistance is less than 5 ohms and not open or shorted to ground. All fuel injectors should have similar resistance. Verify each glow plug resistance is less than 5 ohms and not open or shorted to ground. All glow plugs should have similar resistance.
--> If any problems are found, make the necessary repairs and retest.
--> If No problems are found, diagnosis is complete.

I just got a different IDM because I thought the other one was faulty. It started up and drove okay, but do I have to let the truck run for awhile before turning it off.
