2001 Renault Scenic auto warning light

When cold or first thing engine thumps and auto light comes on. Still drivable but can hear its not in correct gear. Solved by switching off engine and restarting. This may happen two or three times until engine has warmed up then is ok for the rest of the day. Cannot find anyone to look at apart from main dealer.

If it is thumping when you put it into drive then it could quite possibly be a solenoid issue within the gearbox. Often a pressure solenoid which is at fault may cause this type of issue to occur. Unfortunately it is probably best for a renault dealer to see it as they have specific diagnostic equipment for use on the gearbox electronics
