I went under the steering column to investigate which wires I'll be needing to install a remote start. I identified and unplugged two harnesses (I think that's what they're called. Group of wires with a plug at the end). Put them back and now the engine will not turn over. I could not locate a hidden shut off switch. I unplugged the battery. What is the hopefully simple solution to this?

Hi, I'm Dan.

If the truck was starting and running before you unplugged those connectors but now doesn't, then the most likely cause is the plugs themselves. I would unplug them, look into the ends to see if you bent any of the pins, and reinstall them. Make sure they 'snap' back together when installed all the way.

Any codes present? Here is a guide that will help with this.

Do the wires look like they rubbed on anything?

The wires and connectors are fine. I was gentle with them. It was as simple as unplugging them and replacing them within the minute and that is where my problem started. There were two existing codes P0442 C0299-5A

Edit: it appears I irritated the anti theft alarm system.

Sorry for the delay.

Neither of these codes are going to cause this issue but is your theft light remaining on or flashing?

I suspect if the battery was still hooked up that the vehicle thinks it was being stolen so it went to theft mode.

I see where you said you think it irritated it so that means most likely the light is remaining on.

Are you able to disarm the system? If not, try putting the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position for up to 30 minutes. Clearly make sure the radio, HVAC, and other accessory items are off to limit battery drain.

I attached the info below on this system in case you need that.

Thanks
