My rear window wiper blade does not sweep the back glass, all I hear is a "thump, thump, thump. When I turn it on at the dash switch. I removed the arm and the motor is turning the blade, but the blade wont sweep the glass. Went to the junkyard, replaced the blade and still does the same thing. The gear on the motor doesn't look like it's worn, but I believe it's possible. Do you think I need to replace the whole motor or try to put Teflon tape on the gear or duct tape to see it this works to hold the wiper arm more tighter or just buy a motor? The motor looks like this will be a pain to remove and are not cheap. What would you do on this issue?

Can you get a video of what this is doing so that we can get on the same page? I think I understand what is happening but seeing it will get us on the same page so that we don't lead you down the wrong path.

Thanks

Will try, it's the gear that turns the wiper arm around, when I took off the blade, I see that the motor is okay, but the gear might be worn and was trying to maybe put duck tape on it and try to slide the wiper on it to see if it moves to the glass. Will try, raining here for the next 2-3 days. Thanks for the feed back so far.

If it's the issue it sounds like the internal gear inside the wiper motor is bad. The thump sound is the motor moving the gear back and forth but the drive stub isn't secure. They are not real hard to remove and replace and Rock Auto has them reasonable.
