Can I use a plastic scraper to remove tint from rear window without damaging the defroster lines? Tint is so old, I can’t tear it off in one piece. I'm using steam.

Those lines are really easy to damage. With steam you can just keep using the steam to soften the glue and the tint should peel off, then use the steam to remove the glue with a towel. The catch with using a scraper is that you can cause a tiny scratch which is enough to stop the grid from working. However there are kits that let you repair that type of damage.

No, there are actually just thing lines of resistance paint that is applied to the glass. When battery power is applied to the ends of the grid they warm the area around them. That is why they are easy to damage, the lines are very thin and even a small scratch will make them stop working.
