I am looking for a rear height sensor for my SUV. I can find a sensor for a 2006 but it says it is not compatible with a 2004. Can a left front sensor be put on the rear?

The sensors are basically potentiometers in bolt on housings. They output a voltage of about.5 - 4.5 volts to tell the controller the ride height. The rear sensor and the right front use the same sensor but the arm and linkage are mounted different to allow for longer travel in the rear. I have used the right front sensor by removing the arm from the rear sensor and using only the actual sensor as the replacement part, not the arm or link that it comes with. You may need to push out the studs from the new part depending on how they were assembled.
The first picture should look the same as the rear sensor you have. The second picture is a front right sensor. Note the ball stud is reversed between them. That arm is the part that gets removed.

The other option is to replace the airbag system with one of the plethora of kits that use coil springs and new shocks to eliminate the air ride. Those run between $200.00 and $300.00.

Thanks, I think I can use a sensor for a 2006 SUV and use the arm and link from the bad one.

Should be able to as the sensor for the right front turns the correct direction.
