Yep, this only goes on one way so it can be troublesome to get it back on there. Also, the alignment must be straight. You can help it by spreading the collet on the steering shaft slightly. Here is how the manual says to do the job for clarification. I also have seen people remove the steering column to help reinstall the coupler to the rack. The bolt for the coupler needs to be completely removed as well. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
