Hi, just a few days ago we had the fuel filter replaced that came with hoses attached because we had a gas leak. It was fixed and we drove it home that evening and the next day the fuel line came apart on the highway, and my Husband reattached it and the mechanic said it should have never come apart. We bout the one for a short wheel base and just realized our van is a long wheelbase, so would that have anything to do with it? We are scared to drive it again because of this, thank you!

Hi,

I don't believe the LWB would be a factor. When the mechanic installed the new parts, he should have realized if the hoses were too short.

The system is under a good bit of pressure. Maybe one of the clamps wasn't tight enough. Also, if a worm clamp was used, I would replace them with a fuel injector-type clamp to make sure they don't come apart. I attached a picture below so you can see what they look like. If these weren't used, remove the ones on the lines, replace them, and fully tighten them with this type of clamp. They are designed for high pressure and by design, prevent leaks.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you so much! It was definitely scary! I have attached a picture of what I think was put on our van. I know the hoses were made onto the filter.

Hi,

If you look at the fuel lines, you'll notice at the ends, there are quick connectors. At the filter, I believe that is where they use a clamp. Try the clamp type I mentioned, if you get one of them on and tight, it shouldn't ever come off.

Let me know how things turn out for you or if you have other questions. Also, if you could get a couple of pictures of where the problem was located, I should be able to tell you if there is any concern.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you! We did drive yesterday about 16 miles and it held. I will have to get my husband to get a picture of it. I know it came apart on the passenger side.

Hi,

The problem is likely already resolved. LOL Regardless, if there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

Take care of yourself and feel free to come back anytime in the future. You are always welcome.
