First ensure proper ratio of water and coolant in system and that it is full. Then check the top radiator hose to see if it is getting hot to touch when engine warms up, this will tell you if thermostat is opening, if not opening correctly engine will get too hot and hose will stay cool, replace thermostat.
If hose gets warm before engine overheats other problems could be:
blockage in radiator
water pump failing
blockage in heater core
blockage in heater hoses
old or contaminated coolant
bad radiator cap
servo belt not tensioned properly
