95 pontic no start

I have a 95 pontiac grand prix with a3.1 liter in it I am having problem getting it to start it has a key with a chip in it I have no power going to the starter when the key is in the start position I can jump the starter and the car will start then imediatly die some one told me that it was the ignition is there a way to bypass the ignition to test if this is the problem?

Hey bulldog,
When you try to start it, do you get a "security" light flashing when you try to start it? If it is the security system, to my knowledge there is no way to easily bypass it(without extensive rewiring) I could be mistaken though. Any others out there know a simple way?
