The heater on my grand prix goes in and out, heats then just blows cold. Whenever the system starts blowing cold air, I can see the Cooling Temperature gage go up (the temperature of the cooling system increases). It's never made it to RED, but once the heating system starts working again, the engine temp goes back down. Would anyone know why the system would be doing this? Also, the transmissiion fluid tempurature increased from 130 degrees to 153 degrees. Could that be the problem?

Try replacing the thermostat with an automotive parts house HEAVY DUTY replacement. Then make sure you have the proper amount of coolant solution in the system. A mix of 50/50 water to antifreeze is correct. If in Canada the you can mix it a bit stronger w/more antifreeze, 60/40, but no more. Hope this helps. By the way, thermo replace is a simple chore & you won't lose much coolant by getting right to the removal but use a catcher anyway.
