Check the fuse circuits, use a testlite, circuits should be hot. The bat main fuse is under the hood.

The blower motor on my 2004 Grand Prix stopped working the other day. It had been a little noisy on low speeds for some time now. I pulled the cover off and tapped the blower motor and it came on. Good so far but is it going or is there some other problem?

Also I havent had very hot air coming out for quite some time. Do you think heater core ot thermostat?

As far as the motor, it sounds like it is going bad. The heat issue is different. Make sure the engine is running at a normal operating temp, make sure the coolant is full, feel both heater core hoses when the engine is hot, running, and the heater is on. Both hoses should be hot. If they are, chances are the blend door needs adjusted. If only one is hot, flush the heater core.

The motor is under the right side of the dash. When it is not working, give it a good whack to see if it starts up again. If so it needs a new motor.

At times my heater fan and rear window defogger do not work. Seems if when you turn key slowly to start position more often than not my problems are worse. At times seems no way to get it to work at all. Very intermittent. Different keys do not seem to make a difference.

The only parts common to both systems are the ignition switch, power distribution center and the HVAC control module. As you did not state other problems like lights/stereo/other systems we can rule out the ignition switch as it also controls the power to all the rest.
Next the power distribution center also could be an issue, however it is very unlikely.

So let's start with checking the fuses, both items are high power draw so the fuse contacts in the panel could be failing. Unplug them and look to see if the contacts on the fuse or in the box are a different color (usually they will be silver, if they are failing they turn grey, blue or black)
Fuses in the under-hood fuse block.
Fuse 4 Batt Main 2 (60 A) - feeds the rear defroster
Fuse 3 Headlamps (60 A) - also feeds the heater blower.
Fuse 29 HVAC/RKE (10 A) - feeds the HVAC module

Instrument panel fuse block
R-Defog fuse (30 A)
DIC/HVAC fuse (10 A)
HVAC CTRL fuse (20 A)
HVAC HI fuse (30 A)

If none of these are blown the likely culprit is the HVAC control module. They are a problem issue on many GM vehicles. Some are repairable if you know how to solder and can find the correct info online. Or you just replace it. It is the part with the heater/defroster controls in the dash. Not really difficult to replace.

as an example, just use the correct part !

The resistor is located just forward of the blower motor its self. 3 screws only lossen the 2 forward ones, remove the aft one and slide towards you. If your Fan doesnt work on high I dont believe it would be the resistor. High goes straight to the motor relay and then to the blower motor. Just suggesting it sounds like you may need a new blower motor.

The A C switch doesn't blow at all on settings 1 and 2 but works fine on the rest of the settings. Any ideas? Also, I would like to try to fix this myself but not sure what the best service manual is for this so suggestions would be great and thanks ahead of time.
