Engine Performance problem
2001 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 85k miles

I have a 01 grand prix gt (3.8) with a cold air intake K&N, wen I step on the gas it sounds like its being blocked as if the engine isn't getting the air, also it accelerates slow. When the car is on park and I rev it up it sounds perfectly normal. I disconnect the air intake to see if there was anything inside but there wasn't.

First step is to remove K&N kit and put factory intake back on, if problem goes away, then the KN is the problem.

Also inspect MAF sensor for any debris.

Also make sure the incoming air temp sensor is connected and in the air flow stream.

Well I've had the k&n for almost a year and a half and this is the first time it started acting up, I'm hoping it may just be the MAF also I was wondering if it may be the transmission I had it rebuilt last year and got warranty on it for a year and the warranty is up on the 9th of this month, I also checked the incoming air flow sensor and it is in place

Check MAF for debris, if OK, then take back to trans. Rebuilder for diagnosis.

It may be the trans is not shifting properly, shifting too soon, or starting in a gear other than first.
