I have put a new computer system in this car because I was told there were a few bad sensors. My car seems to be getting worse every day and it quits going down the espressway but then starts right back up usually. There are several times in a week that it wont start and when it does start it seems as if it wants to chug when going up a hill or even just stepping on the gas. There has been a new air flow mass sensor put on also and when unplugged, the car still runs the same. I have put hundreds into this car and now have been told that there is no way my car needed a new computer system by several mechanics. I am being taken for a ride and Im getting upset. Do you have any clue what this could be? Someone siad posisbly a fuel pump but why would it just run crappy instead of just simply quitting, its been doing this for several weeks.

I know exactly how you feel. If you computer was bad it wouldnt even start, same goes for your fuel pump. I think that it may be your fuel pressure regulator for starters, I dont know evrything about how you maintain your car but I would start with the simple stuff, like a tune up, spark plug & wires, oil change, fuel filter, air filter, it may even be your catalytic converter, or clogged fuel injectors. Just remember to start off with the least inexspensive solutions first. You may want to invest in a repair manual so the next time this happens you can diagnos the problem yourself then take it to the mechanic. Good luck!

I;m a cerfited mechanic. First off.

You NEED a tune up, spark plugs and wires. Be careful its a pain in the asss doing the three rear spark plugs. Second off, you need a fuel filter, check your air filter as well, If that doesnt fix it, I'd check the fuel system, make sure your injectors arent clogged, make sure the fuel pump isnt going bad, a fuel pump that is going bad but not gone yet, will cuase the symptons your getting. Also get some Throttle body cleaner, pull off the rubber air filter hosing that connects to the throttle body near the plenum. And spray that can of throttle body cleaner in there, that will clear up the throttle body which is much, needed. If you have any further questions, contact me at sussel07@gmail. Com

I had the same exact problem with my car (2000 pontiac GP GT 125000 miles) . i replaced the fuel filter first and it didnt fix the problem. then i replaced temp sensor & thermostat. these didnt work either. replaced alternator it was bad anyway and this didnt fix the problem. i was told it could be the crank sensor causing this problem . i didnt change it but it wasnt the problem. the problem was bad gas i would go up hill it would suck water up and stall. same situation going down hill (usually when i had a quarter tank or less) . this wasnt a constant problem but atleast once a day. i switched gas from get go to exon and now car runs fine with no problems. try putting better gas and fuel injector/ water remover in your tank this just might help your situation. and the way i looked at it was all the stuff done to it needed done anyway so tht was just a plus.
