Engine Performance problem
1992 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic? Miles

Car runs rough intermittently, sometimes it can be great for days and others, it happens multiples times per day. It has a noticable fuel smell when it runs rough, and right before it corrects itself, its seems to rev up before returning to normal. I have switched the ECM to see it was related and the problem still occurs, I have also changed the fuel filter and spark plugs! Any other suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated!

If you smell fuel, my first guess is that you have a fuel injector that is leaking at the O-ring (where it enters the engine. Check that and let me know what you find. Also, pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator to see if any fuel has made its way into the vacuum hose. If it has, replace the regulator. One last thing, have you checked for vacuum leaks, or has the check engine light come on?

Let me know what you find.

Joe

Hi Joe, I will be going over everything you mentioned today, with regards to your questions, I have never had a check engine light come on, and I did have a small vaccum hose leak but it has been repaired, and I have check the vacuum pressure and everything seems to be normal with that, I may be missing a leak though, so I will thoroughly check them all today! Thanks for your help, and I will get back to you with the results :)
