Turn signals not working?
1999 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX
Advertisement
The turn signal blinkers work and blink when the lever is turned on, but after the steering wheel is turned a ways as you are completing the turn they stop blinking. Sometimes if you are making a really sharp turn and the steering wheel is turned completely left or right they start blinking again. The left turn signal works more often than the right. Latest issue was when a small amount of smoke came from steering column and a burnt electrical smell was noticed. The smoke only happened once. Does the whole turn signal mechanism need to be replaced? Cost? Can you do-it-yourself?
definitely all the signs of a failed multi function (turn signal) switch. not really considered a DIY repair seeing as how you have to work with the airbags and such. if you have the tilt column then it will take a shop around 1 1/2 hours to replace it which should be approx. $115 in labor fees

All of the turn signals work except the left rear and the bulbs are good

Inspect the pigtail (where the bulb plugs into), look for any burn marks, which would indicate a short.
Also inspect wiring to turn signal assy, for frayed wires, missing insulation.

I have a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix V6 3.1 Liter with 142,000 miles. When I turn on my turn signal to go left it blinks outside but not inside unless I pull my lever a little bit forward, almost as if i am turning on my brights. Also when I turn my turn signal right the light inside stays lit and does not blink outside, unless I pull the lever forward just like if I turn left. Don't want to pull apart my whole steering column if I don't need to. Please help. any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

Hey, sorry to say this, but it seems like your in need of a new turn signal switch located inside the steering column. The switch costs between $75.00 & $100.00.
