1998 Pontiac Grand Prix Coolant Level

My engine gets very hot, and the fans turn on, but the low coolant light turns on even though it is filled up and I still have to turn my heater on to cool it down. What makes this happen?

Have you tried replacing the thermostat or having the cooling system flushed?

I flushed the radiator twice. Nothing else.
