1997 Pontiac Grand Prix Transmission

What is wrong with my transmission if it all of sudden won't shift out of first gear. The RPMS keep getting higher while barely accelerating. Any ideas?

IT sounds like it is in limp mode. Meaning it will stay in a gear to get out of harms way, but only enough to get it that far. OR it is slipping.

Check for codes in the computer for any transmission related ones and post them.

Is the fluid nice and clear pink like it should be? The filter should have been changed twice by now. IF not, I would prepare yourself for another transmission. Sometimes a solenoid can be replaced, but usually that is a short term fix in my experience.
