Heater problem
1993 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My 1993 Pontiac is overheating. Coolent is leaking out of the overflow and the heater is not blowing hot air. The upper hose is soft indicating the thermostat is not stuck closed and the electric fans are not turning on. I have located the two fan relays under the dash and plan to replace them.

Could the over heating problem be due to bad relays and the fans not coming on.

First remove fan motor connector and fabricate a jumper (wire and alligator clips for example) and test fan motor, connect motor to battery using jumper.

Other than relay/motor, could also be fan switch which sends signal to relay to activate fans.

Coolant coming out overflow could also be a headgasket problem.
